|Selma Jeanne Cohen Conference Presentation Award|
This award provides up to $1000 to a scholar to participate in a plenary or working session at the ASTR conference. This presentation must, in the spirit of Selma Jeanne Cohen, explore the intersections of theatre and dance/movement. Funds shall be used to cover travel and hotel expenses. The purpose of the award is to encourage scholars in dance and movement-based fields to become active members of ASTR by helping them to meet the travel and hotel expenses of attending and presenting at the ASTR annual meeting. ASTR conference registration fees will be waived for award winners.
Any independent, tenured, or untenured scholar is eligible (graduate students, postdoctorates, and faculty are eligible to apply).
Applicants for this award may propose to present a plenary paper, organize a working session, or present in a working session at the 2018 ASTR conference following the standard procedures. (Proposals to join a working session should be sent to the session convener by the deadline for working sessions.)
The following materials should be uploaded online. The applicant should send in a single attachment: a single-page essay (max. 250 words) explaining the value to your career and scholarship of attending the next ASTR meeting and a curriculum vitae, including relevant work experience or courses taken in related fields. The applicant should also request a letter of recommendation from an ASTR member, to be uploaded separately by the person recommending the nominee.
The committee will choose the winner based on the promise of the applicant's work in bridging scholarship in theatre and dance/movement fields.
Please direct questions to Committee Chair Katherine Mezur at email@example.com.
Note: In the event that a person is chosen to receive more than one award to help defray the costs of attending the ASTR conference, that person will receive the money associated with the larger of the two awards but will be acknowledged as a winner of both. The relevant awards committees shall have the right to disburse monies unspent by the award recipient to support additional worthy applicants.
The deadline for 2018 nominations has passed.
