This summer, Megan Lewis (UMass Amherst) and her colleague Judyie Al-Bilali took undergraduate and graduate students from UMass, UC Irvine, SUNY Buffalo, Yale, and York University in Canada to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa. The inaugural study abroad program introduced students to the second largest theatre festival in the world (outside Edinburgh in Scotland) and the largest in the southern hemisphere. This year's festival was phenomenal: it was the 40th anniversary of the festival and the 20th anniversary of South Africa's democracy.
