Special Event: Center for Puppetry Arts Museum and Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Cost: $10 | 40 Available

November 17, 1:30 PM - 5:15 PM (including transportation time)

This ASTR field trip to the Center for Puppetry Arts, the premier exhibit and performance space devoted to puppetry in the US, includes admission to the Worlds of Puppetry Museum and an ASTR-only Behind-the-Scenes Tour. Participants will spend half of their visit viewing the Center's international puppet collection, which features Muppets, War Horse's Topthorn, and a special exhibit, curated by Professor Kathy Foley, on Indian puppetry. During the other half, participants will take a guided tour into the puppet storage areas, research library, puppet building workshop, and performance spaces. Participants will meet in the hotel lobby at 1:15 and depart by 1:30 in order to travel together via the MARTA rail system ($5-7 roundtrip). The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is wheelchair accessible and all Center for Puppetry Arts events are ADA compliant. All members of the group must be present at the Center for Puppetry Arts before the tour/exhibit stroll can begin. Please contact the event organizers, Dassia Posner, and Claudia Orenstein in advance if you need to travel a different way, by taxi, for instance, so they are aware of your plans and can work with you. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs.

Student Fellowships (Limited to 15)

If you are an ASTR graduate student member planning to attend the conference, you may apply to receive a fellowship when you register. Here are the steps:

You are required to work three hours at the conference in exchange for reimbursement of your student registration fee. Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

As part of our mission to provide education, best practices and other information from leaders in their fields, speakers, panelists and audience members should be aware that we may record all or part of the events we organize, including comments from speakers, panelists and audience members. The resulting raw and edited materials, including still photographs, video and audio recordings, and associated verbatim transcripts, may be used by ASTR, without restriction, in press releases, white papers, conference collateral, websites and other publications.

By attending our events, you acknowledge that you are in a public place, and that attendees (including ASTR volunteers) may capture your image in photos and videos. Nevertheless, ASTR encourages event attendees to exercise common sense and good judgment, and respect the wishes of other attendees who do not wish to be photographed at the events.

ASTR uses photos and videos taken at its events for a variety of purposes, including publication on the ASTR website. If you see any photos or profiles about yourself on the site that you would like removed, please contact us at 651-288-3429.

Policies: PCI, Prepayment and Cancellation

**Due to PCI Compliance, please do NOT provide any credit card information via email. Call, mail or fax it in only, or use our secure online payment system**

Prepayment required. All registrations must be accompanied by full payment/Purchase Order to reserve your place at the Conference.

Cancellations must be received in writing at prior to October 16, 2017. No cancellations will be accepted after October 16, 2017. These refunds will be processed less a $100 administrative fee. However, if at any point a change in U.S. travel and/or visa policies makes it impossible or particularly arduous for a registrant to travel to the conference, they should contact the Vice President for Conferences ( with complete details in order to receive a refund. Registrants may also contact the Vice President for Conferences if they need official letters confirming their participation for visa or funding reasons.
