Student Fellowships

If you are an ASTR graduate student member planning to attend the conference, you may apply to receive a fellowship when you register. Here are the steps:

You are required to work 6 hours at the conference in exchange for reimbursement of your student registration fee. Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

American Theatre Archive Project (ATAP) Pre-Conference Workshop

A free pre-conference workshop for the American Theatre Archive Project (ATAP) will be held at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront on Thursday, November 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to introduce area archivists, dramaturgs, and scholars to the ATAP Initiation Program, a process through which theatre companies can establish company archives. Space is limited; preference will be given to Portland-area archivists if registration reaches capacity. For more information and to register, see the ATAP website:

Portland Center Stage (PCS) is the largest producing theater in Portland, Oregon, and is among the top 20 professional regional theaters in America. Established in 1988 as an offshoot of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, PCS became an independent theater in 1994 and has been under the leadership of Artistic Director Chris Coleman since May 2000. PCS stages at least ten major productions annually in two theaters located inside the Gerding Theater at the Armory: the 590-seat U.S. Bank Main Stage and the 190-seat Ellyn Bye Studio. An affiliate of the League of Regional Theatres, Actors’ Equity Association and Theatre Communications Group, PCS produces a blend of classical, contemporary and premiere works in addition to its annual summer playwrights festival, JAW. In its home at the Portland Armory, PCS has more than 9,000 season ticket holders and attracts an annual audience of nearly 150,000 theater-goers of all ages. Widely noted as the “crown jewel” of the Brewery Blocks redevelopment, the Gerding Theater at the Armory’s renovation has contributed to the revitalization of the Pearl/River District, providing both a near-term economic benefit of $14.7 million to the community and a projected long-term impact of $100 million in new economic activity over the next decade.

Since the Armory became the first building in the Cascadia region – and the first historical renovation of a performing arts venue in the world – to achieve a Platinum LEED certification, it has drawn groups of people interested in sustainable design from across the country, as well as international delegations from Russia, Belgium and Hungary.

As part of our mission to provide education, best practices and other information from leaders in their fields, speakers, panelists and audience members should be aware that we may record all or part of the events we organize, including comments from speakers, panelists and audience members. The resulting raw and edited materials, including still photographs, video and audio recordings, and associated verbatim transcripts, may be used by ASTR, without restriction, in press releases, white papers, conference collateral, websites and other publications.

By attending our events, you acknowledge that you are in a public place, and that attendees (including ASTR volunteers) may capture your image in photos and videos. Nevertheless, ASTR encourages event attendees to exercise common sense and good judgment, and respect the wishes of other attendees who do not wish to be photographed at the events.

To receive a refund, minus a $100 administrative fee, cancellations must be received in writing prior to October 28, 2015. No cancellations will be accepted after October 28, 2015.
