Applications (or nominations) are invited for the position of Editor of ASTR Online, the web-based publication and presence of American Society for Theatre Research. The new Editor will officially begin in January of 2011, serving for two years. Editorial transition, however, will begin at the conference in Montreal in November 2011.
The editor is responsible for content generation: s/he will oversee all aspects of ASTR website content including a quarterly publication, member news and announcements, presidential reports, and other information relevant to the membership. As well, the position involves close collaboration with the Webmaster (who is responsible for content management) to ensure that the Society’s Handbook, descriptions of awards, and other information are kept up-to-date.
The editor works with a small editorial team including associate editors responsible for featured news, member news, and media (video, podcasts etc.). In partnership with the associate editors, the editor solicits, vets, edits and copyedits all material in non-HTML format (generally working with MS Word) and supplies this to the webmaster for posting.
The variety in workload requires a flexible approach and the ability to collaborate effectively and promptly.
Candidates should demonstrate relevant experience, be familiar with the concerns and interests of ASTR, and have an active scholarly profile. The promise of some institutional support, such as aid for a graduate assistant, would be an asset. The letter of application should describe your qualifications for as well as your interest in this position. The application, CV, and names of two people supporting your application should be sent by 15 September 2011 as e-mail attachments to:
