“Dramaturgy for a New Generation: Bringing Middle America to the Middle East,” is a mini-documentary describing the dramaturgical work on a production of 13 the Musical at Center Stage Theatre (http://www.themerkaz.org.il/apage/17997.php) in Jerusalem, Israel. The dramaturg, Jacob Hellman, and the actors reflect on their experiences rehearsing and performing the musical. The cast speak candidly about working with a dramaturg for the first time, learning to imbue meaning and purpose to their characters, and daily challenges both onstage playing American teenagers and offstage as a teenagers growing up in Israel and the West Bank. An earlier version of this video was shown as a part of a presentation at the 2010 Conference for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education in Los Angeles, California.
