Robin Bernstein published Racial Innocence: Performing American Childhood from Slavery to Civil Rights (New York University Press, 2011). This book argues that performance - both on-stage and in everyday life - was the key technology by which ideas about race and ideas about childhood intertwined in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
