Share |

This prize honors the publication (book or essay) that, in the opinion of the prize committee, best explores the intersections of theatre and dance/movement in the previous two calendar years. Beginning with 2018, in even-numbered years, this award recognizes books, and in odd-numbered years, this award recognizes essays.

Any independent, tenured, or untenured scholar is eligible. For the 2018 award, eligible books must have been published in 2016 or 2017. Essay nominations should be held for the 2019 award cycle.

Nominations can come from the author of a book or essay, any member of ASTR, or a book publisher or an editor of a journal or collection in which an essay has appeared. Authors can nominate only one essay. Editors can nominate one essay per volume.

Essays should be uploaded below in any of the following formats: .pdf, .doc, or .docx.

The winning book or essay will be judged based on

  • Innovation in methodological approach;
  • Critical and/or historical rigor;
  • Potential for encouraging future scholarship that will strengthen exchanges between theatre and dance/movement.
